Agenda Item: VIII.E.

Consider/Approve Bid for Service Truck

Background Information:

In addition to advertising, we solicited bids for the purchase of a 2011 service truck (specifications attached).  Mr. Larry Parks hand delivered the request for bids to all Obion County automobile dealerships. We received bids from Union City Ford, Herman Jenkins Motors, and Kenton Chevrolet. The low bid was submitted by Kenton Chevrolet in the amount of $16,299.

During the budget planning process, the transportation supervisor brought to my attention that it was in the rotation to purchase a service truck. During our budget meetings, we agreed that if economy somewhat stabilized, we would solicit bids and ask the Board for approval to purchase the truck. Funds for the purchase of the service truck are budgeted within the General Purpose School Fund for the 2010 – 2011 fiscal year as approved by the Board. During this time of recession, we have been very diligent in adhering to our rotation schedules to ensure that funds are not spent unwisely on unnecessary repairs. The acceptance/rejection of any and all bids is within the discretion of the Board.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the low bid as submitted by Kenton Chevrolet in the amount of $16,299.
